Dom Agresta joined Iles Selley Lawyers as a Senior Associate
in February 2004. He became a Partner of the firm in April
2006.
Admitted to practice in 1995, Dom holds an Honours Degree
in Law from the University of Adelaide and a BA, with Honours,
from Flinders University.
Shortly after admission, Dom entered the Chambers of leading
Adelaide Queen’s Counsel, Michael Abbott QC, with whom
he worked closely for the next three years, often acting as
Abbott QC’s junior. He signed the Bar Roll in 1997.
In 1999, Dom decided on a change of career path, joining leading
plaintiffs’ firm Condello & Co as a solicitor and
in house counsel. He remained there for four years before
accepting an offer from Iles Selley Lawyers to join its expanding
commercial and criminal practice.
Dom is a widely experienced and sought after litigator, well
respected in both the commercial and the criminal courts.
He is renowned for his intelligence, hard work and lateral
thinking. He is equally at home in commercial and criminal
matters, whether acting as instructor or counsel in his own
right.
Dom advises and acts for clients in all of the following areas:
- directors’ duties and corporate governance
disputes;
- insurance, including professional indemnity;
- public liability litigation;
- leasing disputes;
- criminal law, criminal injuries compensation and
corporate crime;
- personal injury litigation and general tortious liability;
- administrative law, including judicial review;
- corporate insolvency and debt recovery;
- consumer protection and Trade Practices litigation;
- equity and trusts;
- real property disputes including mortgagee actions
and caveats generally.
Some of the more significant matters in which Dom has been
closely involved include:
- The IOOF v Auspine matters in the Supreme Court of
South Australia;
- The Hindmarsh Island Bridge Royal Commission and
subsequent successful High Court challenge;
- Insurance issues concerning the former State Bank
of South Australia directors;
- ASIC investigations and prosecutions in relation
to the conduct of managed investment schemes;
- Acting for members of a large property development
joint venture agreement in the south of South Australia;
- Major copyright/designs act litigation concerning
intellectual property rights.
Dom appears as counsel in every Court in the State as well
as in the Federal Court, Full Federal Court and High Court
of Australia.
